NEWS - PAUL DAVIS AND LACO TIES
05.03.2012
Oscar Wilde once said, "a well tied tie is the first serious step in life."In this spirit, we are extremely proud to announce a new collaboration with one of the oldest clothing manufacturers in Germany. Founded in 1838, LACO Krawatten is Germany's oldest tie manufacturer. For generations, LACO has handcrafted luxury ties and accessories for men, garnering a devout following both here and abroad.
We are extremely privileged to have their expert hands behind a special series of ties for the upcoming Paul Davis F/W collection.
Over the past few months we have been working together, going through every last detail, to develop what we believe is the perfect compliment to the upcoming collection.
Sourcing some of the best fabrics from around the world, each tie also comes with a "handgenäht" (hand-sewn) label, serving only as a small indication of the hard work and craftsmanship behind this very special series.

NEWS - PARIS FASHION WEEK UPDATE
22.01.2012
It's been a busy fashion week so far! We were honoured to welcome one of the leading men's department stores into the showroom yesterday and with a couple more appointments lined up over the next few days, it's only going to get busier. Continuing the themes of modernity and simplistic luxury, the PAUL DAVIS F/W 2012-13 collection is based on the hybrid looks and influences in this age of increased mobility. Drawing inspiration from artists who have found their home abroad, Jarvis Cocker and Wes Anderson to name a couple, the collection explores the sartorial mix of combining opposing cultures. With borders blurring between nations, the garments we once considered "classic" are now being reinvented. The result is bold, new versions of traditional pieces, all strangely familiar, yet never seen before.
Asymmetrical trench coats, form-fitting parkas, crisp mackintoshes, smart dress shirts, deconstructed tailored jackets-- the PAUL DAVIS F/W 2012-13 collection strives to capture this new esthetic.
The fabrics that make up the collection are just as diverse. Woolens from the Austrian Alps, flannels from the mountainous Biella region, shirtings from Switzerland and waxed cottons from the United Kingdom, some of the best quality materials have been sourced from around the world.
And although we pride ourselves in the fact that the collection is 100% "made in Berlin", we're happy to announce a new collaboration with Germany's oldest tie manufacturer in Hamburg. We've worked together over the past few months to create a series of casual neckties and accessories that we hope you will enjoy.

VISIT - BEST OF BERLIN
28.12.2011
With the year now coming to a close, I thought I'd share some of my favourite haunts in my adoptive city. In my opinion, these are some of the best places Berlin has to offer.DINING
We all want to eat well. But doing so in the German capital isn't always so easy. Pickled herring, boiled meatballs, asparagus with white sauce-- typical Berlin cuisine isn't for everyone. But while it lacks a following for its local gastronomie, Berlin more than makes up for it with its international offer.
Bandol sur Mer is my French favourite. It's a small space that spills onto Torstrasse in the summer months. Stark black chalkboards line the room and bald incandescant lightbulbs shed some light on the daily specials. The food is spot-on without being overly complicated or pretentious.
Café Jacques in Kreuzberg is also a fave. The beloved Ahmad, er Jacques, creates an inviting atmosphere combining French flair with Eastern Mediterranean cuisine. For Italian, Molinari in Kreuzberg is a fantastic place to sit around large wooden tables and eat excellently prepared pasta. Switching continents, Sasaya on Lychenerstrasse can't be beat for Japanese. The cigarette gyozas are to die for.
For those seeking a more intimate perspective of the city, there has been somewhat of a culinary phenomenon in Berlin over the past few years. Originally as a way for diehard food aficionados to subsidize their rent, guests are invited into people's homes and are served generous, multiple-course meals. "Pirate restaurants" or "supper clubs", as they're called, have sprouted up all over and are a great way to experience the city while sitting down with a healthy mix of locals and visitors. The only catch is that once you confirm your attendance, you can't tell anyone else where you are. Pirate style, indeed.
For fast food, you can't come to Berlin without trying the legendary Currywurst. There's even a museum dedicated to it. Although many people favour Curry36 on Mehringdamm, I'm a fan of Konnopke's. Situated under the train trestle of U-Bahnhof Eberswalderstrasse, the place has been an institution in Berlin since 1930. Line-ups are long and attitude plenty, but well worth the pilgrimage.
Of course, if sausage, ketchup and curry powder isn't your thing, there is a host of good fast food joints all around the city. The roast beef sandwich at New York-style Deli Zuckermann's on Rosenthalerstrasse is hard to beat and the burgers at Burgermeister in Kreuzberg have people lining up into the early hours.
PLACE TO STAY
For hotels, I think the Hotel de Rome is in class of it's own. Not only is the level of service and comfort absolutely pristine, but the rooftop terrace offers the best view of the city. That is, without scaling a giant television antennae...
BOOKSHOPS
For books, I always drop by my friends at Dialogue for the latest in new English fiction. But when developing a new collection or seeking some inspiration for the eyes, I head over to either Bücherbogen in Charlottenburg or Walter König in Mitte. Both have an incredible selection of books on art, textiles, print, anything you could imagine. For magazines, Do You Read Me? on Augustrasse is the definitive resource for tapping into the Zeitgeist.
BEST PLACE FOR A SWIM
If the winter weather prevents you from swimming in one of the thousands of lakes around the city, consider a dunk in the newly-renovated Bärwald Bad in Kreuzberg. The 110 year-old swimming pool has been brought back to its former glory and is slowly being rediscovered by locals.
BIKE SHOP
Separate bike paths, separate traffic lights, virtually no hills and wide streets, there is no better city in the world to be a cyclist. Everyone has their local bike shop and most know their "mechanics" by name. But if you are just getting acquainted with the city, make sure to stop by Zweitrad on Fehrbellinerstrasse. Not only do these guys know their stuff but they'll measure you up and get you your perfect frame.
BEST PLACE TO BUY A BOTTLE
Entering into the Tabak und Whiskey Center is like going back a hundred years to the ramshackle saloons of the Yukon gold rush. The store is cold, the ambiance dark, and burly men with unshaven faces stand menacingly behind the counter. Yet once you say hello and tell them what you are looking for, these same hardened faces light up and share with you an unsurpassed knowledge of any malt ever created.
BEST PLACE TO SEE A FILM
The open-air cinema in Kreuzberg is a must in summer. Under starry skies you can relax, enjoy a beer and catch a flick. But if you forgot your blanket, I would suggest the Yorck group of cinemas. Each one of them is a protected heritage site and boasts a rich cultural history. The Kino International is perhaps the best of them all, with an interior so beautiful you might not even notice the film.
BEST QUIRK OF THE CITY
Green pissoirs abound in the German capital. But while they put off for smell they certainly make up for in appearance.

GET TO KNOW - CHRISTINE ROGALA
08.12.2011
The Eiffel Tower, The Arc de Triomphe, The Sacré-Coeur... just some of the few things you won't see in the works of Paris-based photographer, Christine Rogala. Yet looking through the pages of her latest book, A Summer in Paris, one is given a rare glimpse at the true identity of the city.In a place where the Amelie Poulain ideal is proliferated ad nauseum, it is the authentic side of the city that often goes overlooked. But here Christine so brilliantly captures the real people behind the city, creating something far more beautiful than anything found on a postcard.
And as we'll be there next month to present our collection during men's fashion week, there's nothing better to get us in the mood. Check it out.
